Carpenter/Installation Team Member

 

Job description
STEM Solutions LLC., is the leading provider of commercial and educational custom Lab Fit Outs in the U.S. The Carpenter/Installation Team Member will be primarily responsible for installing and assembling casework, including cabinets, benches, and associated equipment.  This position can grow within the Installation Team to Lead/Foreman or within STEM to Project Management or Estimating.
 
Primary Role
Working in Field Operations, you will be responsible for receiving, preparing, delivering, and installing laboratory furniture, cabinets, fume hoods and accessories to customers throughout New England.  In this role you will handle schedule coordination, trouble shooting and punch list creation.  We expect everyone to be able to work in a safe, organized, and well managed job site.  This is a full-time, hourly, position with typical hours 6:00 am to 2:30 pm.  These hours are dependent on workload and scheduling as communicated by your manager, the Foreman, or Project Management Team.  Overtime is sometimes required.  Travel is sometimes required with overnight stay.
1. Installing and assembling casework, including wood and steel cabinets and benches (prior experience required)
2. Installing countertop surfaces (will train, but prior experience a plus)
3.  Unloading, unpacking, and inspecting for defects casework from delivered pallets
The ideal candidate must have prior experience installing and assembling cabinets - kitchen and bathroom cabinet experience is appropriate - it does not need to be in a commercial environment. Candidates must be proficient with use of smart phone apps and technology and holding an OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification is a plus.  Candidates who do not have an OSHA Certification will be required to obtain one during the first week of hire to maintain employment (class can be completed at STEM’s headquarters).
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Follow STEM’s methods for installing laboratory cabinets, casework, and fume hoods on job sites
  • Store items in an orderly and accessible manner
  • Examine and inspect material for damage or defects, reporting any damage to manager
  • Use fork trucks, pallet jacks, and other equipment to safely handle, load and unload material
  • Verify the contents of deliveries against bill of lading and packing slips.  Check and note all damages or missing items
  • Read plans, packing slips and other paperwork as necessary
  • Maintain tracking method for incoming and outgoing material
  • Load/Unload material trucks
  • Provide outstanding customer service to clients, project managers, and other subcontractors on the job
 
Additional Duties & Responsibilities
  • Responsible for knowledge of product line and the general commercial lab space facilities industry knowledge
  • Analyze drawings and specifications to ensure that installation is matching plan
  • Be present and working at various job sites in and around New England, as required
  • Travel to and from job sites is reimbursed at current IRS mileage rates on a weekly basis - candidates must have a reliable means of transportation to job sites and a valid driver’s license.
  • Assist with completing punch list tasks to eliminate return trips
 
Qualifications
  • To be considered for this position, candidates must have prior experience installing and assembling cabinets and pre-pack furniture
  • 1-3 years Construction and/or Carpentry experience
  • Safe, clean driving record (Employment contingent on clean Background Check)
  • Must be able to lift 50+ pounds using proper lifting techniques
  • Ability to communicate with customers in a professional and courteous way
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects at a time
  • The ideal candidate should have the aptitude to read and interpret construction documents to advance in this position. Training is provided in this area.
  • Candidate must be reliable.
  • Knowledge of architectural drawing & technical specifications, and trade scopes definitions a plus
  • Dependable, organized and self-motivated
  • Attention to detail and organized
  • Driven, strong, work ethic
  • Strong smart phone technical skills
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification a plus – or obtaining during the first week of employment is a condition for maintaining employment (see above on class specifics).

Compensation
Hourly, full-time, with opportunity to grow in construction field management.
$25-$30 per hour depending on experience.
